application process

Deadline:   We are now accepting requests for November 1, 2023 - April 15, 2024. (Deadline: June 30, 2023)

Dates:         November 1, 2023 - April 15, 2024 (we are closed December 15 - January 15 for annual maintenance)

Cost:            The cost for is $450/week for settler-allies; $250/week for indigenous practitioners (upto 2 people). Support towards costs are available if requested.

Additional people are $50/person/week to a maximum of 4.

Please note that we don’t pro-rate this per day. For example, if you decide to ask for a 10 day retreat, the cost would still be for 2 weeks

Dates:          All retreats begin on a Friday.

Capacity:     Max 4 people, the cottage has 1 queen bed and 1 double bed in a loft.

Space:         1 bedroom + a studio for non-toxic materials.

Access: To our great regret, the cottage is not friendly to guests with mobility issues. There are 110+ steps from the road to the cottage, and the ground is at times uneven and rocky.

Location/Transportation: Coppermoss is located 12kms from the closest grocery stores, and other than one taxi servicing the entire town of Sechelt, there is no public transportation to and from the cottage. We strongly encourage you to have a means of transportation, preferably a car during the winter months. People have been known to cycle out to us, but be aware the road is long and hilly. If you do not have a car, we may be available to pick you up at the bus stop in Sechelt, and drop you back there on your last day. We cannot do ferry pickups. A taxi costs $40 from Sechelt to Tuwanek. From Sechelt there is a bus that takes you to the Langdale Ferry Terminal.

How to Apply:

The application is simple. Please send the following items in a single email to coppermosstuwanek@gmail.com. We will try and get you a response within three weeks. We don't run thematics, we are instead interested in supporting artists who are open to having complex and nuanced discussions about decolonisation through walks on the land with us. The walk we take you on is suited to how you answer the questions below.

We ask you to answer two questions:

  1. Why do you want to come to Coppermoss?

  2. What do you hope to do with your time while you are here? We are not production oriented, so this question helps us determine how best to support you while you are here.

Also include the following:

  1. Your preferred dates (Fridays are the start). Give us at least two options of options please.

  2. A brief biography and/or artist statement that we can use for our website.

  3. No more than 5 images of your artwork and/or a link to a website.
